How to Mobilise
Coming to the Faslane 365 Students Summer Blockade and Strident Camp? Help get other people to come along too!
Not only will this mean that you share an important and empowering experience with others, it will help increase the impact of the students’ blockade and mean that you return home together with a group of people inspired and trained up to take action on whatever concerns you most.
There’s loads of ways to get other people excited about the camp and blockade:
Spread the word
The Strident Camp and Summer Blockade is a really exciting event, so once people hear about it, they’ll want to get involved.
- Tell your friends - in person, by email, on Facebook, however
- Email sympathetic societies at your university or college
- Put posters up and give out flyers telling people how they can get involved
- Dress up in white suits and die on your High Street to make it into your student paper to get the word out
- Be creative! Help build the buzz around this event that it deserves and make it a really effective piece of action!
Engage people in the issue
Opposing new nuclear weapons raises a lot of questions: How can we build a peaceful society? When is civil disobedience justified? Why did our democratic process fail us?
Put on a speaker event to address some of these questions and publicise it widely on your campus and through all the networks above. The people who come will care about Trident renewal and will probably want to do something about it.
Let them know about the Strident camp and tell them how they can get involved. You might want to invite them to a meeting where everyone interested can start planning how you will be involved.
What next?
Our experience is that when people know about Strident Camp, they want to be involved. There’s loads of ways that you can help make that happen.
- Bring people together to explore the issues, think about what action they’d like to take at the Faslane nuclear base and to form an action group.
- Get everyone registered for the event here
- Get training together in Non Violent Direct Action and explore together what roles people might take on - these will include local media work (non-arrestable), legal support (non-arrestable) and possible blockaders (arrestable).
- You could also take action on campus, to make sure everyone knows that you’re going to the camp and why you are opposed to Trident.
